Congratulations to the journalism team for winning the IHSA Sectional Journalism Tournament on Saturday. First place finishers: Peter Rest in Double-Page Spread and Info Graphics, Elizabeth Link in Copy Editing, Emily Grugan in Copy Writing and Haylie Williamson in Page Design. Second place finishers: Maddie Kogelis in News Writing, Devki Kasture in Photo Story Telling and Alayna Nulty in Advertising. Third place finishers: Khialee Boyles in Headline Writing, Alyssa Metelak in Editorial Cartooning, Metelak and Boyles in Yearbook Theme Development and Brady Johnson in Review Writing. Fourth place finishers: Elizabeth Link in Feature Writing and Claire Myers in Sports Writing. Fifth place finishers: Claire Myers in Caption Writing and Trenton Butler in Editorial Writing. Sixth place finisher: Logan Klein in Broadcast. First, second and third place finishers will compete at the IHSA State tournament at Eastern Illinois Universtiy this Friday.
The Washington Community High School Graduation is Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. All graduating seniors need to read the attached graduation rules and information, and sign and return the acknowledgement sheet to the administration office (located by the West Gym) by Monday, April 24.
*Caps and gowns will be available on Thursday, April 27 during lunch. All fees must be paid and the acknowledgement sheet must be turned in before any items will be distributed.
Congratulations to the candidates who were recently elected to fill the four open positions on the board of education. Elected candidates include: Brad Butler, Jewel Ward, Brian Fischer and Bonnie Nofsinger. We are pleased to welcome these board members and look forward to working with them to continuously improve our school and plan for the future.
The WCHS Junior and Senior Prom (The Roaring 20's) is Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Embassy Suites Convention Center. Prom tickets are $50 per person and After Midnight tickets are $10 per person and will be sold in the MPR during all lunches April 18 - April 20. Students do not have to attend Prom to attend After Midnight.
We are pleased to announce that the following students have earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2017: Allie Salrin and Aleece Thomas. These students have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation and received Gold Keys for their ceramic work. This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Less than 1% were recognized at the national level. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 8th. Their artwork will be shipped to New York and put on display at The Sheila C. Johnson Design Center @ Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institutes' Pratt Manhattan Gallery. The exhibition is open to the public from June 2 -12.
